Perfume Bottles And Fragrances

The very word perfume creates a whiff of fragrance in the surroundings. It fills and mesmerizes the senses with a wonderful sensation and feeling. Perfumes have always attracted mankind and how a bottle of perfume is created is a mystery even in this era and age! The art of perfume making is a secret and the selected perfumes are created by specialists who never divulge the ingredients of it. This makes each bottle of perfume unique.

The perfume making art was introduced in Egypt and Mesopotamia somewhere in the 2nd millennium BC. Originally perfume was made from spices like almonds, coriander and bergamot along with various other herbs. Flowers were not used in those days.

A Persian doctor and chemist discovered that perfume could be made from flowers too. He started making perfume with roses and rose water was a big favorite immediately. Once introduced, rose water was being used extensively and is still used.

With the advancement in the perfume making industry and mass production and consumption, there has been a sea change in the entire procedure of perfume making. It has now become a mechanical job no doubt but still needs expertise.

Commercial manufacturers keep their secrets of making perfume close to their hearts and don`t like to divulge it. However it is open secret that perfume is derived from plants, animals and other natural ways. Among the plants resins, seeds, leaves, fruits, and flowers are used. In the animals` category civet, musk and honey comb may be used. In the modern era genetically induced plants are also being used to make perfumes by the perfume manufacturers.

The manufacturers now days use many synthetic sources like chemicals prepared in labs to make perfume and these perfumes are quite a hit among the users.

Although the basic method of producing perfume is the same for all perfumes various manufacturers adopt slightly different style of manufacturing it according their individual style and choice.

Before you start making perfume you need to understand the composition of the perfume oil. They have been classified into four categories according to the role played by them. These scents are found in the different notes like the top, base or the middle according to the supporting ingredients.

They are the following: fixatives, modifiers, blenders and primary scents.

The fragrance oil has to be mixed with ethyl alcohol and water in special containers for a minimum of two weeks and all sediments are to be filtered off carefully. Nowadays the usual style is to use the base for it because of the obvious reasons instead of extracting perfumes from the `ground ups`.

There are quite a few types of oils mixed in a perfume. Once the final product is ready it is very difficult to know about its separate compositions. It is very difficult to break up the perfume and find its ingredients. However the nature of the perfume can be understood by the experts by using reverse technology. But this is also useful only if the perfume is not too much complicated in formation. A lot depends on the equipment that is put into use. Competitors and discerning consumers use it to reveal the formula used in the making of the perfume.

Continuous research is always being carried on in the perfume industry and experts keep experimenting and devising new ways of making perfume. Efforts are made to make each bottle unique, each perfume unique and the secrecy that is maintained by all concerned is amazing.

Perfume bottle that you have is unique and a lot of hard work has gone into it. Don`t waste it, but use it with love and care in honor of the care that has gone into it!

Nail Health

Healthy nails are pretty nails - something worth considering if your nails never seem to look good. Fortunately, nails don't need a lot to be healthy. The most important thing is to avoid those activities and substances that damage nails. There are also a few pro-active things you can do to help foster good health. No, I don't mean costly supplements, exotic-sounding nail creams, or expensive salon treatments. What I'm talking about are easy, common sense types of things that don't take a lot of effort, thought, or money.

Cuticle massage

Massage has a reputation for being a frivolous, feel-good kind of thing we treat ourselves to on birthdays or Mother's days. And that's too bad, because massage can stimulate blood flow, encourage oxygen to reach body tissues, and help us relax, placing it firmly in the realm of everyday health care.

If you need further convincing, massage can also help our nails. Dermatologists have long known that nails on a person's dominant hand grow faster and stronger than nails on a person's non dominant hand. The reason? The busier hand enjoys an increase in blood supply, which nourishes and prompts nails to grow faster.

Massage also encourages increased blood flow to the fingers and toes. To massage your nails, reach for some heavy hand cream, massage oil, baby oil, or even olive oil. Place a drop or two of the product at the base of the nail, and rub it into the cuticle, up the nail folds, and onto the nail plate itself. Nail massage has a secondary benefit: the massage lotion or oil moisturizes the nails, cuticles, and surrounding skin so that nails stay strong and flexible enough to fend off breaks and the surrounding skin remains supple and hangnail-free.

The importance of gloves

No one I know wears gloves while cleaning or gardening. I don't know why this is, although I suspect it may be a generation thing. My reasoning? My grandmother and her friends were harder on their hands than our generation is on ours: those ladies pulled weeds, harvested vegetables, picked apples, pitted cherries, peeled peaches for preserves, made minor repairs around the house, did hand laundry, washed dishes without the aid of a machine, " and scrubbed floors. Yet, unlike me and my friends, those ladies never got professional manicures. Also unlike me and many of my friends, those ladies had strong, healthy nails.

So what was their secret? Many dermatologists and nail technicians point to the gloves that the older generation wore. Gloves provide a barrier that protects nail keratin from the weakening affects of water; collisions with hard surfaces; corrosive household chemicals; and more. Fortunately, glove-wearing has nothing to do with your generation and everything to do with habit. To develop the glove-wearing habit yourself, get several pairs for dishwashing and indoor cleaning, and a pair or two for gardening - then wear them!

Is Cosmetic Surgery for You?

Should You or Shouldn't You Have cosmetic surgery? Ultimately, only you can decide. But to help you determine whether cosmetic surgery is an option for you, ask yourself the following probing questions:

Things to consider

Why do you want cosmetic surgery? If your answer is to look like a model or celebrity, to win the affections of a certain person, or to have a happier life, you may be disappointed. Cosmetic surgery will not change your life - it will only change a certain feature, and it rarely can make you look like another person. The healthiest reason for wanting surgery is to simply improve your appearance.

Your well-being

Are you in good health? Cosmetic surgery is serious surgery. Therefore, if you suffer from a pre-existing condition, you may not be a suitable candidate. If you're a smoker, try to quit as far ahead of surgery as possible. Nicotine slows wound healing - sometimes severely. Many surgeons will not operate on smokers.

What is your threshold for pain? Cosmetic surgery is surgery, and as such involves pain - perhaps during the procedure and most certainly afterward during the healing process. How much pain you'll feel depends on the procedure and your tolerance level.

Ask your surgeon about the homeopathic remedy Arnica. Many doctors are now prescribing Arnica before and after surgery to reduce swelling and bruising and speed healing.

Considering the costs

Can you afford cosmetic surgery? Surgery fees vary widely depending on the procedure, the doctor, and the part of the country the doctor practices in. After researching surgery fees, ask yourself if you can comfortably afford to go under the knife. Furthermore, do you have time for surgery? Depending on the surgery and your age - the older you are, the longer you'll take to heal - you will spend from 5 days to a month healing. During this time, you are bandaged and swollen, and often bruised and uncomfortable - you remain indoors until you feel good enough to be seen by others.

Let's say you see a surgeon about a certain feature you'd like to improve and he or she responds by pointing out additional features that" need fixing." Leave his or her office immediately An ethical doctor does not try to sell surgery by telling you that you have flaws.

Finding a surgeon

Have you found a reputable doctor? When searching for a surgeon, be prepared to visit several before deciding on one. When interviewing surgeons, ask about their educations, how long they have been practicing cosmetic surgery, what Surgeries they specialize in, how many of a certain procedure they have performed in their careers, and whether or not they have ever been sued for malpractice.

MY BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER

What mother doesn't want her daughter to grow up to be a beautiful, elegant woman? In your endeavour to do this, don't neglect her personality development. It may sound clich'd, but inner beauty is indeed just as important as outer beauty. One of the most appealing aspects of a woman's beauty is her self confidence. A confident woman who walks straight, doesn't slouch, can hold a conversation on any topic, looks you in the eye when she speaks and has a high degree of self esteem is far more attractive than someone with a pretty face and no self-confidence or conversation skills. So concentrate on building up your daughter's confidence at the outset. Stay away from negative comments and at no stage should you criticize your daughter. Criticize or check a bad habit without criticizing her. Strive to constantly build your daughter's confidence without making her arrogant. Arrogance is usually a method of self-defence against personal criticism. If you stop finding fault with her, her defences should drop.

Feature Flaws

Remember that short of plastic surgery, your daughter's features cannot be changed. Never, at any stage, let your daughter feel that her nose is too short or too long, that she is too dark or that anything is wrong with any of her features. It is not necessary to have classical features in order to look beautiful. Each person's unique 'flaws' add to their character and their beauty and can actually work to their advantage.

Make-up trends

Most women just want to look pretty, and the best way to do this is NOT by following beauty trends. That hot pink lipstick may be the latest runway rage, but there is no point in wearing it if it doesn't suit you. Teach your daughter not to follow trends as far as make-up is concerned. Make-up is not an end in itself. It is a means to enhancing your best features, playing down flaws and imperfect skin, and making yourself look prettier at the end of the day.

'I want to look like that model in the magazine!' This is a common desire amongst girls and women, and if they don't look as beautiful as the women they see in beauty magazines, they start feeling ugly. Remember that the photograph of that beautiful model has been taken after a professional make-up artist has worked on the model and caked her face with make-up. Then, a professional photographer has taken the photograph under the best and most flattering lighting. Dozens of rolls of film have been shot and a handful of these have been chosen for the magazine.

Skin

Certain things which are within control matter more in ensuring that your daughter grows up looking and feeling pretty. One of the most important of these is complexion. Flawless skin goes a long way in enhancing a person's looks so concentrate more on ensuring that your daughter's skin looks glowing, healthy and completely pimple-free. It is not important to be fair skinned to be beautiful.

Never encourage your daughter to wear foundation of a lighter colour than her natural skin. Her face will look pasty and dull in your endeavour to make her look fair.

Exercise

Inculcate a habit of exercise in your daughter even if she is not plump. This will help keep her in shape for years to come, and will boost her energy level making her feel better about herself. This will automatically make her more attractive.

Grooming

Teach your daughter that is more important to be well groomed than to have perfectly balanced features. If your daughter dresses well, has well groomed, shiny hair, clear skin, walks well and speaks well, she will automatically come across as attractive. So stop obsessing about her skin colour or her small eyes. Keep telling her that she is beautiful until she believes it - and that is when she will truly become beautiful.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR NECK

When talking about cosmetics and beauty treatment, one tends to focus on the face, hair, hands and feet. We tend to believe that if these parts are well-groomed, miscellaneous body parts like the neck, shoulders, arms and elbows can be swept under the carpet like so much dust. But like so many other things in life, it's the little things that count. What's the point of having a perfectly made-up face if the skin on your neck is loose and mottled? Hairy arms, black elbows and drooping posture can ruin the effect of the sexiest little halter. So let's take a look at how to take care of your neck, shoulders, arms and elbows so that they don't let you down.

Your Neck

The first thing to do is to stop thinking that your face stops at your chin. Think of your neck as an extension of your face. Whenever you wash your face, wash your neck too. If you use a foundation or a loose powder on your face, remember to apply it to your neck or there will be an unsightly colour difference between your face and your neck. Use upward strokes to apply a nourishing cream on your neck and throat every night.

In order to avoid flabby neck muscles or a double chin, hold your head high with your chin up and slightly forward.

Home Remedies

There are some home remedies to whiten and soften the skin on your neck. You can make a skin tonic by mixing 3 teaspoons of borax powder, 2 tablespoons of glycerine and 2 cups of rose water. You can also apply this tonic on your arms and shoulders. We also have a recipe for an overnight cream for the neck, throat and shoulders. Mix equal parts of lanolin and butter. Beat them thoroughly in a double saucepan over boiling water. Rub this cream over your neck and shoulders in upward motions. Leave it on overnight and wash it in the morning.

Simple Exercises

Here are a few simple exercises that can help you tighten those neck muscles. Breathe slowly and bring your neck down to rest on the chest. Then raise your head slowly and bend it backwards as far as you can. Another exercise is to breathe deeply and turn your neck on your left side as far as you can without moving your shoulders and body. Repeat these exercises atleast ten times daily.

SHOULDERS AND ARMS

Gleaming shoulders are very attractive and we can tell you how to achieve this. You can prepare a home-made cream that will make your skin shine. Boil whites of two eggs in a cup of rose water for a few seconds. Add ¼ teaspoon of alum powder and beat them together till fluffy. Now slather this mixture over your shoulders and arms and leave it on for atleast an hour.

You can hide hairy legs by wearing jeans, trousers and long skirts, but its torture to wear long sleeves in the summer just because youre too lazy to do something about those hairy arms. If your hairgrowth is dense and long, the best thing to do is wax. However, if you have smooth fine hair, just bleaching your arms will make the hair almost invisible. Unfortunately both waxing and bleaching are not a permanent solution so you will have to repeat the process every few weeks.

FACIAL HAIR

Its bad enough when you have a lot of hair on your body, but the most annoying is when you have a thick growth of hair on the face.

Many women over the years have tried all kinds of treatments to get rid of facial hair. 12-year-old Latha tried to scrub off her moustache with a towel, with the result that her entire upperlip turned raw and started bleeding. Sandra has been shaving her entire face for 4 years, and now she needs to shave it everyday or she will develop a stubble! 23-year-old Sneha tried to scrub off her sideburns with a pumice stone, and the next day, she had thick scarring where her sideburns used to be.

There are millions such stories of women struggling to cope with facial hair. If you too are one of the numerous women with the same problem, realize that you are not alone in this, and that there is a lot you can do without resorting to drastic means.

Threading

Thread the hair on your upperlip and chin. Read this article for step-by-step instructions to threading. Threading will help you remove even the tiniest and finest of hair, whereas, if you wax, you will need to wait for hair to grow before you can wax it off again.

If you dont have a lot of hair on the chin, instead of threading, selectively pluck just the thick hair. Dont get tempted to pluck fine hair, because it will grow back thicker. Also, thread your eyebrows, but you may want to leave this to professionals. Dont try threading your brows yourself unless you are skilled in threading, because you may mess up the shape. If you have a lot of hair on your forehead, you could thread it when you are doing your eyebrows. Dont thread your forehead if you are prone to developing pimples on this area. Bleaching would be a better solution.

If you dont live in India, and dont have easy access to someone who can thread your eyebrows, pluck them regularly, or get them waxed by a beautician.

Waxing

It is not very feasible to wax your entire face. You could, however, wax your sideburns. Fortunately, sideburns take a while to grow back, and over time, with regular waxing, the growth will reduce. However, be careful to ensure that you dont wax off very fine hair when waxing the sideburns. Wax only the very thickest portion of the sideburns, so the fine hair doesnt grow back thicker or gradually you will need to wax your cheeks as well.

So now you have tackled the main problem areas, which are the upperlip, chin, sideburns and eyebrows. If you have a lot of hair on your cheeks as well, instead of waxing such a large portion of your face, simply apply bleach to your entire face. If you bleach sideburns that are very hairy, blonde hair is often clearly visible. However, now that you have waxed off the hairiest part of your sideburns, bleach your entire face. Your face will look clean, fresh and free of hair.

SINGLE LASER SESSION

If you have a lot of hair on your face, concealing it is not very easy. Laser therapy is effective, and need not be expensive.

For many women, hair removal is a big issue. Some have excessive hair on their arms and legs. Others want to know how they can get rid of hair on their stomachs, while still others have dark underarms, often caused by shaving their armpits. However, none of these issues generally cause as much concern as a hairy face does.

If you have a lot of hair on your face, concealing this hair is not easy. Some bleach their faces, but the hair is still visible. And for women with dark skin, bleaching may not seem to be the ideal solution because the light hair is clearly visible against a darker skin tone. They then try threading, waxing, hair removal creams or home remedies.

Now more and more women are turning to laser treatments, but there is one constraint that prevents it from being very popular the cost.

Call ahead

It may seem surprising, but people often believe that laser therapy is more expensive than it actually is. Different clinics offer different deals, so before coming to any conclusions, call various clinics in your city and ask them their prices. It is however best to opt for a tried and tested clinic. Go somewhere your friends have been to, or a clinic that you have heard about and know to be reputable.

Get a patch test

Always ask for a patch test. In the patch test, a small patch of hair will be removed from an area on your body. Although the purpose of patch tests is essentially to see how your body reacts to the laser, this is really not an accurate indicator since often the strength of the laser when conducting a patch test is much lower than the strength of the laser used when actually removing hair during the treatment. What you can judge from a patch test though is how much of your hair grows back after one laser session.

Consider opting for a single session

As you may be aware, a single session is not enough to fully remove all hair. But, you may be surprised to know that many people have found one laser session to be enough to radically reduce hair growth. The thicker and darker your hair, the higher the chances a single session of laser therapy will be effective.

If you have a lot of hair on your face, consider going in for a single laser session. First, get a patch test done on that area of your face that has the most hair, like your chin. In this manner, your chin will be getting two laser sessions. (However, they may do just a small section of your chin in a patch test).

Find out about package deals

Where do you have the most hair on your face? On your sideburns? Do you have a lot of hair on your chin? Or, is your upperlip turning green? If your entire lower face seems to be hairy, consider going in for a single session of a lower-face package. Your hair will not completely go away, but the growth will certainly reduce substantially which is indeed a blessing for people with a lot of hair on the face.

You may then need to continue with other hair removal treatments, for example, you may need to continue threading your upperlip, but no longer will it be green, and no longer will you have to thread it as often. Similarly, you can continue bleaching your side locks, but they will now be almost invisible.

Remember, if budget is a constraint, and a single session of laser therapy cuts down even fifty percent of your hair growth, it will be well worth the investment.

EXFOLIATE YOUR FACE!

How often do you exfoliate your skin? Is it enough? How should you exfoliate? Read on for information on exfoliation and a great homemade scrub recipe.

The older you grow, the more often you need to exfoliate your skin. As we all know, skin cells die and new cells keep getting regenerated. These dead cells come to rest on the top layer of our skin, making our skin look dull, and, in some cases, patchy. Although dead skin is replaced naturally by new cells, this process takes longer as we age, making our skin look duller and patchier for greater lengths of time. This is why regular exfoliation becomes a must.

How often should I exfoliate?

In your twenties, exfoliate skin twice a week with a granular face scrub. These are gentle on the skin. In your thirties, exfoliate skin every alternate day, or on a daily basis. You can do this by adding exfoliation to your 3-step routine. So your routine can be cleansing, toning and moisturizing once a day, and cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturizing the second time around. You can cut down the process by simply using an exfoliating face wash.

Once you enter your forties, you can consider going in for a few microdermabrasion treatments. This treatment entails the use of an abrasive crystal that removes dry, dead tissue and encourages rejuvenation. It is non-surgical, does not require anesthesia, and you can be back at work the same day. Around five to eight treatments should suffice through your forties, and when you reach the age of fifty, go in for a chemical peel.

How should I exfoliate?

Apply face scrub on wet skin after cleansing, and scrub using gentle, circular motions. Wash off with cool or tepid water. Follow up with toner and moisturizer. Once a week, go in for a deep cleansing treatment. Steam your face and then scrub it well with a face scrub. Apply a mud mask to your face and leave on for ten minutes. The properties of the mask will get well and truly absorbed by the skin. Then, wash off the mask make sure you use cool or tepid water, never hot water and follow up with toner and moisturizer. Do this once a week, or once a fortnight, no matter what your age.

Will regular exfoliation help get rid of blackheads?

Yes, exfoliation helps keep a check on blackheads. If an area is prone to blackheads, pay special attention to the area while exfoliating. For example, if you have blackheads on your nose, and even if you do not exfoliate daily, try scrubbing just your nose with your face scrub daily. Over time the blackheads will vanish.

Any homemade recipes?

Heres how you can make your own all-natural exfoliating mask at home.

1 tsp sugar (granulated, not powdered)
 tsp honey
1 tsp plain yogurt

Mix the ingredients together and apply it to your face. Leave it on for ten minutes, and rinse with water, scrubbing gently. Your face will feel dewy and soft.

And finally

Remember that exfoliation dries out skin, so always apply moisturizer after exfoliating. If you apply moisturizer after exfoliation, not only will the dryness vanish, but the moisturizer will also be able to penetrate the skin deeper, since dead cells are not blocking its path. As a result, your daily moisturizer will become doubly effective!

MY FAIR LADY

You can be beautiful even if you are dark, and unattractive even if you are fair. So why lay such a premium on fair skin.

Why is it so important to be fair

We all know women who are beautiful even if they are not light skinned, and we all know fair skinned girls who are unattractive. Still, all of us spend hours trying to lighten our skin and on wishing that we had lighter skin, and thousands of rupees on products that claim to lighten our skin.

More damaging than the time and money spent, is the inbuilt belief that you are in some manner inferior because you are not fair.

Girls with dark complexions grow up wishing that they had lighter skin, and often develop an inferiority complex. Thankfully, for some, this complex vanishes as they grow older and wiser and discover numerous abilities and talents, but sadly, others never seem to be able to let go of the feeling of inadequacy. Not surprisingly though, when you take a look at any matrimonial ad, and the text will in all probability say looking for a convent educated, fair, beautiful girl And considering that our entire culture evolves around marriage, fair women suddenly seem to command a premium.

Any wonder then that a girl with dark skin will want to lighten it?

Beauty companies feed off this inbuilt insecurity, and make millions as they sell their fairness creams to women. The ads make it seem so easy if you transform yourself into a fair skinned woman, you will get the job you want, and the man you want. Needless to say, its not that easy, and no matter what you believe at the moment, the colour of your skin should be the lowest on your list of beautification priorities. Concentrate the time, effort and money that you would on trying to get fair, on something else, and the results would be far more satisfying.

Here are some tips:

Its a mistaken belief that if you have dark skin, you should not colour your hair light. Nothing is further from the truth. Dont hesitate before adding blonde highlights. They brighten up your complexion, making you look radiant.

Take care of your hair, and ensure it is always well groomed.

If you have frizzy, flyaway hair, style it regularly so it doesnt look messy. 32 year old Hetal doesnt even remember what her hair looks like without blowdrying it, because she is so particular about blowdrying and styling her hair after every wash.

If you dont have the time or patience for blowdrying your hair regularly, get your hair permed. If you are light skinned, you can get away with sporting frizzy hair, but if you are dark, with dark, frizzy hair, colouring it and then blowdrying it straight even if you dont opt for chemical straightening, can make a world of a difference.

White and red suits dark skinned women, so wear these colours often. I know many women whose entire wardrobe consists only of 2-3 colours, because they know what colours suit them, and dont see the need to wear anything else. You could also figure out what colours dont suit you, and stay away from them. There is really no need to possess a top in every colour under the sun. If you have the features, cut your hair short (think Halle Berry). Not everyone can carry off hair this short, but if you can, go for it, as short hair that looks good looks far more effective and attractive than long hair.

Do fairness creams work

They do, to a certain extent. Dont fool yourself into believing that they will make you fair. They will, at the most, lighten your skin slightly, but glowing skin will only come from within. Exercise regularly, and before long your skin will start glowing with health and vitality and a glowing, healthy skin beats light, pale and unhealthy skin any day!

SUN FUN

As summer fades and winter rears its head, people in certain parts of the globe are gearing up to try and stay warm and cozy. But others like us in Mumbai, who are blessed with sunshine all year round, barely feel the change in season, and continue to bask in the seemingly eternal warmth of the sun.

While the sunshine is milder in winter, it can still wreak havoc on your skin, especially if you dont take the proper precautions before venturing out. Once your skin is damaged by excessive UV radiation, it will never repair itself. If you were in doubt as to the damage sun can wreak, heres a refresher:

* Premature wrinkling
* Skin cancer
* Dries the skin
* Sunburn
* Freckles

So keep these tips in mind before stepping out:

1. Never, ever step out in the sun without wearing a sunscreen lotion.

2. If you are dusky skinned and a tan does not show up, this does NOT mean you are any less at risk of suffering the damage caused by UV radiation.

3. What kind of lotion should you apply? Well, look for one which has an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of at least 15. This means that it will protect your skin for 15 times longer than if you had no sunscreen. It does not mean it offers stronger protection, but that it offers longer lasting protection. It all depends on how sensitive your skin is to the sun. Thus, if your skin starts going red after youve been in the sun for ten minutes, you will be able to stand the sun for 1 and a half hours if you use an SPF of 15.

4. If your skin is extra sensitive, go in for a sun tan lotion with a higher SPF.

5. Apply the lotion at least 15 minutes before exposure to the sun.

6. If you are going swimming, make sure you wear a water-resistant sunscreen. The combination of chlorine and water is murder for your skin!

7. Dont forget your lips! Lips are sensitive, and they require special protection because they cant tan. Lipstick is better than nude lips, and if you can get your hands on a lipstick which offers UV protection, theres nothing like it!

8. Remember, a sun tan lotion will not prevent you from tanning. It will, however, filter out harmful UV radiation.

9. Stay in the shade as much as possible, especially between 11am and 3 pm. The sun is at its hottest at this time.

10. When you get home after being in the sun for some time, apply an after-sun lotion. This moisturizes your skin, and it also has certain ingredients especially for sun-exposed skin.

ORANGE PEEL SKIN

No, this is not a food article. These phrases are popularly used to describe the dreaded phenomenon of cellulite. Dimpled knees only look cute on babies. If you're way past the baby stage and you have dimpled fat below your waist level, you've got cellulite!

The pinch test

Pinch your skin between your thumb and finger or between the palms of your hands. If it is just plain old fat, the pinched skin will appear smooth. However, if the pinched skin has ripples or bumps similar to an orange peel, it's cellulite.

Skinny people have it too

Cellulite can affect any age group and there is a depressing statistic that claims that 99% of all women develop some cellulite after 30. However, men can also have cellulite around their necks and stomachs. As you may have guessed from the title, it definitely appears on the thighs. It also settles around the buttocks, the hips, the stomach, the ankles, the upper arms, the upper back below the shoulders and the lower back. That seems to cover most of it. The most astounding fact is that you don't have to obese to have cellulite. While overweight people are more likely to have cellulite, even skinny people face the problem.

There are two kinds of cellulite. The hard variety, which appears, believe it or not, in more active people, is harder to detect, as it is not so easily pinched away from the muscle. Soft cellulite is associated with poor muscle tone and is more noticeable as the skin is loose and it sags.

Who's the culprit?

While some researchers would like to believe that cellulite is all in the genes, it is more likely that what parents do pass on are bad habits. Cellulite formation is linked to poor eating habits, a sedentary lifestyle, build-up of toxins in the body and poor circulation. Cellulite may also develop after pregnancy or as a result of taking contraceptive pills due to excessive estrogen levels.

The orange peel or cottage cheese effect is the direct result of the malfunctioning of the waste removal system and the build-up of toxins in the body. When this happens, the connective tissue surrounding the muscles become filled with fluid that hardens into hard pockets making your skin look like the peel of an orange.
